Also called "Baghla", or "Baggalah", this type of very classic Arabian trade ship was among the largest. Equipped with two masts with large lateen antennaes, they were mainly heavy-duty vessels (250-500 tons), equipped with a quarter deck with a western-style stern table, but some were used by the barbary coast pirates in the eighteenth century. Their fine lines combined to their generous rigging, made them fast indeed. Some were armed with 12 guns and more.
